Pick the font your going to be using and type a single letter. (use any color besides the block color because this will be deleted later) Create yourself a new layer named 'block'. Change ur color to whatever color u want the block to be You're going to select the rectangle tool (U) and draw the shape of the block u want around the single letter.

Merge the 'block' layer onto the layer with the single letter. Select Magic Wand Tool (W) and click inside the letter to select it. Hit the delete key and erase the current selection so all thats left on the layer is the block itself.

It looks good if you change up the shapes and position of the font inside the blocks. You can also use the free transform tool to tilt each block.
